Dreaming Costs Nothing

2014

What a year. Where do I start?

2014 has been an amazing year for me. So much has changed, and I've learnt so much about life this year. It's been the best year of my life, without a doubt, and it only seems to be getting better!

At the start of this year I was attending College, taking the bus every day and not enjoying the daily grind too much at all. The day after my 17th Birthday I began taking driving lessons, which I really enjoyed.
Around April I got my first ever job working at the KFC in my town. It was ok, but I can't say I enjoyed it all that much either. You have to start somewhere though, so I kept at it for a good few months.

Meanwhile, College wasn't going so well, I'd finished pretty much all the work however they decided for whatever reason they didn't want to keep me for the second year because of one or two peices of work that needed finishing (the teacher previously told me these were complete and taken care of). The amount of time I wasted on that college work wasn't fun, I'd finished pretty much everything, I needed to dust up a few bits to get to the second year and I was instructed to 'beg the headmaster' to let me stay. Who? A man I'd never spoken to who looked at a peice of paper with some misinformation on it and decided my fate.
Now, this is where I made a decision. I was sitting in the College lobby thinking about what to do, I knew that if I really wanted I'd be able to beg and maybe get my place back, but looking at the past year, the work I hadn't enjoyed doing, the lacklustre teaching staff and the overall bad experience I'd had with the place, did I really want to waste another year of precious human life on this place?
I walked away, and never went back.

That turned out to be the the best decision I had made all year. With now no education on the go, and nothing but I part time job at KFC which I loathed, it seemed at the time to be a real bad turn, but everything works out fine in the end, and you need to keep going. So I looked into Apprenticeships. While I was pretty much done with education, I didn't want to go to any other College or go to University seeing as it's all for a peice of paper and I'd rather have experience and a secure job, an apprenticeship seemed like a great idea. And I was lucky enough to secure a job at the first interview I took, Adaptive Web in Derby.

Getting that job was incredible. Finally I could pursue a career in Web Design which is something I've always wanted to do, learn some valuable skills, get experience, a qualification and earn some money at the same time! And hopefully, after it's over, get a full time job out of it! I almost immediately quit my awful job at KFC and never looked back on that either. Haven't been there since.

Soon after getting my job, I was able to go on a family holiday with my folks, which was a really nice relaxing break and it gave me time to recover from working my ass off in KFC for hours over the weeks before.

After my holiday, it's August now, and my job is going well, I've made a lot of good friends from it, I'm enjoying the work, not for a second missing college, and loving life.
One day, I get back from work and find a car sitting on my drive. at first I thought someone was visiting the house, but then I realised that this was my car.. I have a car.. Holy shit. Next, it's time to take my driving test after months of learning.

Unfortunately I failed my first test, but not long after I was able to rebook (10 days) and managed to pass the second time. Holy shit, suddenly I can drive!
Now, I'm driving to work, I'm able to see my friends and drive over to meet some people at last. Things are going too well for me..

And that leads us to where we are now, December 2014, end of the line for this amazing year, with a whole lot to look forward to moving forward. It's been a busy Holiday Season, with a lot of band concerts to play at with a whole lot of christmas music to be playing at them.. It's been nice to have some time to relax this Christmas and kick back!

Next year, I'll become an Uncle as my Sister becomes a Mother, I'll complete my Apprenticeship and get a full time career, I'll be going away with my friends on a bunch of adventures and I hope that I'll be making a load of new friends and a lot of new memories to treasure. I can't wait to see what 2015 has in store for me!

I've had an absolutely wonderful year, my life has changed so much for the better in these past 12 months. My outlook and future looks bright, I've made so many good friends and had a lot of fun this year.

Which just leaves me to say thank you to all the wonderful people out there who have made my 2014 as amazing as it has been. I am truly blessed to have such amazing people in my life. I love you all. Have a wonderful New Year, and I hope your 2015 is great <3
