Dreaming Costs Nothing

2015

31st Dec, 2015

2015.. That was a year.

It doesn’t seem two minutes since I was here last year typing out a summary of my year, but so much has changed in 2015, my life is once again completely different to what it was last year. I’ve made a few friends, lost a few friends, learnt a lot about life and done some things.

The year started off well with going to Butlins in January with my Brass Band friends, and then my birthday at the end of the month. And then in February I entered a relationship with Amy, we’re still going strong now at 10 months! Being with her has taught me so much, and I feel like we’ve grown a lot together, even though it’s been less than a year, I feel like we’ve been through a lot and made a lot of good memories, I don’t see it ending anytime soon. I love her. Meeting her is definitely the highlight of the year, and one of the best things to ever happen to me.

Then of course my Sister had her baby, Miss Poppy Hankin, the most adorable little thing. She’s grown so much already, and I’m looking forward to getting to know her more as time goes on. It’s been nice seeing her grow and my Sister makes a pretty decent Mum too!

The second half of this year has had its ups and downs, I got taken on full time at Adaptive, so I’m now a full time software developer. I’m still driving my Renault Clio which I love to bits, I’ve been on some nice holidays with my family and Amy this year. I feel like I’ve gained a lot of experience in all aspects of life, love and work. I feel like a different person for the better, and I now know that no matter what you go through, you can bounce back, the world is what you make of it and state of mind is everything.

I’ve also learnt a lot about how things work, how people act and what to expect. You start life at the bottom of the ladder and working your way up isn’t easy, but when you’re swimming against the tide that little bit of progress feels like a lot. It’s important to have good friends, make time for them, and try and keep pushing forward in life.

Meanwhile in the world this year there’s not been much great to shout about. There continues to be unrest and war in the east, and terrorist attacks have been frequent in the west. I’m glad that nobody I know has been affected, and I’m grateful that I have a wonderful family, friends and a loving girlfriend in this world. I am not displeased with my lot, and it’s important to remind yourself of what you have and count your lucky stars every now and then.

This year has gone so quickly, life continues to feel like it’s going faster and faster. I’ve been struggling to find time to do things I used to have plenty for, the days seem to go slowly, the evenings go fast and the weeks just whizz by. It’s really quite scary. How do you slow this thing down?

I have a lot of things I’d like to change and improve about myself, I’d like to manage my time better, learn to stay motivated when the going gets tough, accept what is and know what I can change, forgive and forget, and try to be a better person to all. I’m hoping I can work on this and use what I’ve learned in 2015 as well as the things I’ll learn in 2016 to achieve this!

I’m looking forward to going into 2016 head on, continuing onward taking in all the valuable things I learned in 2015 and using them to my advantage as I continue to grow as a person. Life’s completely different to what it was a year ago, and I have no doubt I’ll be saying the same thing next year, either for better or for worse.

Either way, I’ll do my best, 2015 overall was a pretty great year with many challenges and lessons to learn, and I’m grateful for it. The good things, like getting together with a wonderful girl, spending a lot of time with her and making a lot of good memories that I’ll cherish. And the tough stuff, lessons learned and things to take forward to make myself better in future.

Thanks for everything 2015, I’ll never forget you!
